Toon frustrated with Diaby award from Leverkusen
Roundup of Newcastle transfer news, rumors and gossip in the 2022 summer window. Newcastle interested in Diaby | Toon’s Ekitike case deadlocked
Newcastle United retain an interest in Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, with the 22-year-old one of several attacking players the club are considering.
It is believed that there may be a discrepancy between what Newcastle are willing to pay and what Leverkusen are asking for the France international.
Meanwhile, there are currently no moves on Reims striker Hugo Ekitike as Newcastle still want the 20-year-old but are focused on other attacking targets.
Reims head coach Oscar Garcia claims Ekitike told him he wanted to stay.
Newcastle interested in loaning Broja
Newcastle are interested in signing Armando Broja from Chelsea this summer and have discussed it as a potential loan option.
Chelsea intend to assess Broja in pre-season before making a decision on his future.
There is strong interest from West Ham and Southampton, who loaned him out last season, while Everton are another club to have approached the Blues over the Albanian’s availability.
Chelsea are lacking in attacking options having allowed Romelu Lukaku to join Inter Milan on loan.
Newcastle complete the signing of Lille defender Botman
Newcastle have completed the signing of Lille centre-back Sven Botman on a five-year deal.
The total fee for the defender is in the region of £35million.
The Dutchman was Eddie Howe’s first defensive transfer target this summer. The club named the defender as a transfer target in January, but negotiations with Lille proved complicated.
They beat competition from AC Milan for his signature.
Toon still in talks for Ekitike | Negotiations on certain “difficult” terms
Newcastle United are still in talks for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike but are ready to walk away from the deal if no progress is made.
Negotiations over certain terms have been described to Sky Sports News as “difficult”, with a source revealing that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the France U21 International, and that other clubs are also interested.
Sky Sports News also understands Newcastle are close to agreeing personal terms with the 20-year-old.
Newcastle sign Pope from Burnley for £10m
Nick Pope has completed his £10million move to Newcastle from Burnley, with the England goalkeeper signing a four-year deal.
The 30-year-old was keen to stay in the Premier League following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship to ensure he remains in Gareth Southgate’s England plans ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
Pope, who had a year left on his contract at Burnley, will challenge Martin Dubravka for the No.1 shirt at St James’ Park.
Targett completes permanent move to Newcastle
Matt Targett has completed his permanent move to Newcastle after the club activated their option to sign him following his successful loan spell.
The 26-year-old head coach impressed Eddie Howe and the club’s new owners, playing every minute of the 16 Premier League games he appeared in after arriving on January 31, helping to steer the club away from the relegation picture and to finish 11th, keeping five clean sheets along the way.
Newcastle had an agreement in place to make the move permanent for £15million, which includes a £3million loan fee for last season, and activated the option.
