EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – A 19-year-old who held a gun near his head accidentally made a hole in his neighbor’s floor, police said.
The investigation into the shooting led to two arrests and one major drug theft, police added.
Police were called to the Oxford Village area in the Farmington section on Monday morning on a report of a gunshot. Police said they found the bullet hole in the floor of a resident and evacuated the apartment from which they believed the gunshot was coming from.
As it turned out, the gun accidentally detonated as Nicholas Minella, of Pleasantville, handled the gun near his head, police said. No “significant” injuries were found, police said.
But further investigation led to the execution of two search warrants and two arrests. Minella and Gabriel Vega, 19, have been charged with numerous weapons and drug offenses.
Police said they confiscated 36 pounds of suspected marijuana, one pound of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, over 800 suspected foods and THC extracts, two ounces of suspected cocaine, an assortment of pills, two handguns and $ 17,384 in cash.
