Napoli set new £102m price tag for Osimhen

Napoli have reportedly pinned a stratospheric £102million price tag on in-demand striker Victor Osimhen, who has been heavily linked with Manchester United.

According to The Sun, the Partenopei must sell the Nigerian star to facilitate the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford.

Osimhen has had a great start to the season, scoring in the opening two Serie A matches as Napoli beat Hellas Verona and Monza via an aggregate score of 9-2. Brought from Lille in a club-record deal worth €70m in 2020, the 23-year-old has enjoyed mixed fortunes in southern Italy.

Ongoing injury problems have held back Osimhen’s progress at Napoli. But when fit and shooting, he was Luciano Spalletti’s deadliest weapon in the opening period. With Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne bidding farewell to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer, he looked destined to lead Partenopei’s attack for years to come.

However, fate seems to have other plans for Osimhen. The star gunslinger caught the eye of Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag. After parting ways with Edinson Cavani at the start of the summer, the Red Devils are without a hard-core striker. They hope to make the talisman Napoli their new attacking leader.

Man Utd are determined to bring Osimhen to Old Trafford in the final days of summer. But for that to happen they would have to pay up to £102m to convince Napoli to sell. Known as a stubborn negotiator, Aurelio De Laurentiis is unlikely to grant favors alongside Ten Hag.

On the other hand, Napoli are keen to bring Ronaldo back to Serie A. The veteran striker is looking to leave Man Utd to secure Champions League football. He has already offered himself to several teams in Europe, including Milan and Inter.
