CP launches carbon emissions calculator

CALGARY, Alta., September 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ – Canadian Pacific (TSX: CP) (NYSE: CP) today launched a website carbon emissions calculator, enabling customers to better understand the carbon footprint of its rail freight services. The tool enables complex, custom emissions calculations and integrates customer-specific shipping details to calculate route- and commodity-specific greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Carbon Calculator allows CP customers to explore the impacts of their own carbon footprint and make decisions to reduce freight transportation emissions by choosing the least carbon-emitting mode of transportation. The tool provides additional information on the climate-related benefits of shipping goods with CP rail services, an overview of lifecycle emissions from logistics services, and a comparison of CP rail services with trucking alternatives long distance.

“CP is committed to operating sustainably and being part of the solution in the transition to a less carbon-intensive economy by North America,” said Keith Creel, President and CEO of CP. “We are excited to provide our customers with a tool that allows them to better understand the carbon footprint associated with their shipping options and make informed choices that benefit the environment.”

As part of the company Climate Strategy, CP is focused on operational efficiency and improved performance, working diligently to optimize energy consumption and reduce costs. CP recognizes that its ability to influence GHG emissions reductions extends beyond its operations and through its suppliers and value chain network. The Carbon Emissions Calculator provides a framework for engaging across the value chain to identify and collaborate on opportunities to reduce GHG emissions within supply chains.

CP recognizes that collective action to decarbonize must continue over the coming decades and is proud to play a leadership role in the freight transportation industry’s ongoing efforts to reduce its collective impact on the environment. Sharing ideas and experiences with external stakeholders will add value to CP’s climate programs and support collaboration and innovation that will benefit the entire transportation industry.

CP’s Carbon Emissions Calculator is available online through the website.
