LAS VEGAS – AAPEX 2021 has announced the recipients of its second annual Service and Repair Award to honor vehicle repair shop owners, technicians and service advisors.

The winners will be recognized during the opening session of AAPEX on November 2 at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas.

The recipients are:

  • AAPEX Store Owner of the Year: Jamie and Eric Carlson, co-owners of Ervine’s Auto Repair & Grand Rapids Hybrid and EV in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
  • AAPEX Technician of the Year: Matt Fanslow, Senior Diagnostician and Shop Manager at Riverside Automotive, Red Wing, Minn. ; and
  • AAPEX Technical Advisor of the Year: Brittany Schindler, Service Manager at Rod’s Japanese Auto Care, Bellingham, Wash.

Candidates were judged by an independent panel of store owners and industry leaders and were assessed based on their commitment to ASE training and certification; local, community, charitable and industrial engagement; diagnostic, teamwork and mentoring skills; and personal and professional qualities.

Mr. Carlson is an ASE Certified Master Technician (A1-A8) and holds L1 Automobile Advanced Engine Performance, L3 Light Duty Hybrid / Electric Vehicle certification.

Ms. Carlson “has two main goals that drive her advertising, customer service, recruiting and human resources efforts. One is to ensure that all motorists, whether they know their vehicle or not, can be assured that they have professionals who look after their best interests. Simultaneously, it aims to elevate the status of professionals who choose a career in this industry, ”according to the award presenters.

“Eric and Jamie work daily to create a pleasant, rewarding environment that allows employees to know that their talent, skills and work ethic are valued.

Mr. Fanslow has 27 years of automotive industry experience and is an ASE Master Certified Technician (A1-A8) and L1 Automotive Advanced Engine Performance Specialist. It invests more than 80 hours per year in training and hundreds of additional hours of reading and researching SAE papers and journals, according to the award presenters.

He also has his own podcast, “Matt Fanslow Diagnosing the Aftermarket A to Z”.

Ms. Schindler has worked in the industry for 11 years and has obtained the ASE C1 Service Consultant certification. She performs 100 hours of training each year, has trained several service counselors and teaches at the Automotive Training Institute (ATI).
