Aurélien Tchouameni begins to justify his price
The price of a player is often determined by the market. Supply and demand play a role in world football as well as in the global economy.
When Real Madrid splashed the cash to sign midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, the club was questioned by the general public for the €100m needed to lure the 22-year-old away from AS Monaco. As we now know, chairman Florentino Perez paid slightly more than expected to try to undermine Liverpool and PSG’s attempts to sign Tchouameni.
Real Madrid suddenly lost their midfield stalwart, Casemiro, to a desperate bid from Manchester United that would hand the Brazilian a hefty raise and a four-year contract. The club rightfully left Casemiro to decide what he wanted to do, and after five Champions League titles and nearly a decade in the Spanish capital, the anchor of the midfield trio decided it was time to take on a new challenge.
Enter Aurélien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid bought the France international because of his undeniable talent. Tchouameni separated from the pack in Ligue 1 in the same way as Eduardo Camavinga. And, given that both midfielders are close in age and set to be fixtures in the French midfield for decades to come, it’s far better to spend more on him now than in a few years.
Tchouameni’s arrival over the summer opened the door for Casemiro to move on and Real Madrid were more than willing to ‘tank’ the second most expensive transfer for a player over 30. year. The first was the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus. for more than 100 million pounds.
Although it is the third highest amount paid for a player during the summer transfer window, Aurélien Tchouameni already justifies the price of 100 million euros.
The price tag and the departure of Casemiro had no effect on Tchouameni’s form in his first three La Liga appearances.
A starter in all three, the young Frenchman has already gained valuable experience working with all the other midfielders in the team. He played admirably in back-to-back away games against Celta Vigo and Espanyol, providing his first assist with a fine through ball to Vinicius Junior in the weekend win.
This assist was just the first taste of what Tchouameni brings to Real Madrid’s vaunted midfield. Although it will occupy the deep no. 6 Role Like Casemiro, Tchouameni is always more involved in building up the attack.
He plays with a defense-first mentality, leader of the top five European leagues in tackles in nearly 50 games between 2020 and 2021, but his attacking intelligence and passing quality rival that of teammate Toni Kroos.
In 238 minutes to settle in his new club, he has completed 93% of his passes, averaged 63 passes per game, has two key assists and this assist.
If there was anyone who could replace Casemiro and carry Real Madrid to their next generation of success, it’s Aurélien Tchouameni.
And it certainly helps that he’s surrounded by two of the greatest midfielders in the club’s history – Kroos and Luka Modric – while being paired with French team-mate Camavinga and the always energetic Federico Valverde. Everyone at the club, including the manager, is full of admiration for the Frenchman and holds him in high regard.
We already see why Los Blancos went ahead and paid €100m to sweep Tchouameni from Liverpool and PSG. He will only get better playing in his favorite role while surrounded by some of the best players in the world.
The Real Madrid midfielder is in good hands with Aurelien Tchouameni obstructing the midfield.
